Climbing Instructor Courses

We run a range of nationally recognised qualification courses for aspiring Climbing Instructors.  These NGB courses are administered by Mountain Training, and each award involves a training course, a consolidation period and an assessment course. These courses are ideal if you are looking to become a climbing instructor either professionally or as a volunteer.

To attend any training course you must first register with Mountain Training for the award scheme that you would like to complete. Links to register for each award are included with the descriptions below.

If you have already completed a training course and the consolidation requirements you can send us a course enquiry via your Mountain Training CMS log in, or via the mail address above making sure to include your Mountain Training registration number

This qualification is all about supervising safe climbing and abseiling sessions on single pitch crags and artificial structures. 

Whether you're a parent, a volunteer or an outdoor centre instructor, the Rock Climbing Instructor qualification trains and assesses experienced rock climbers to instruct climbing.

This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to teach lead climbing skills on indoor or outdoor artificial climbing walls and structures with fixed protection.

 It builds on the skills gained through either the Climbing Wall Instructor or Rock Climbing Instructor qualifications, one of which must be held in order to access the scheme.

This new qualification is for experienced Rock Climbing Instructors who wish to develop other climber's skills and abilities, including the teaching of lead climbing.

The Climbing Wall Instructor Abseil module, is an optional module undertaken by those involved in the Climbing Wall Instructor Award scheme. It's aim is to train and assess people responsible for supervising abseiling from climbing walls.
