1. This is a ladies foursomes competition, which is staged over one weekend at the Braid Hills Golf Course, Edinburgh. Competitors must therefore be available to play both Saturday and Sunday.

2. The maximum individual national handicap is 30 at date of entry (i.e. the maximum allowable exact handicap is 30.4). Consideration will be given to entrants who have previously held a handicap of 30 or better but playing handicaps will be limited to 30. Lady members of Scottish Golf Clubs or Societies are eligible to enter; entry is with a partner.

3. An initial round of medal foursomes play is held on the first day (morning) as a qualifying round for the matchplay stages on day two. The four best scores (net of handicap) qualify for the semi-finals to be played in the morning of day two with the Final in the afternoon. The winners in the Final will be the holders of the Gibson Cup for one year. A second flight of matchplay may be staged at the discretion of the Committee. The four next best, net scores after those qualifying for the Gibson Cup will qualify for this matchplay series. The matchplay stages are again foursomes format, off handicap.

4. A Consolation Plate Competition is available to those who do not qualify for the matchplay stages. The format of the Plate competition is foursomes - using the Stableford points scoring system. Foursomes pairings who wish to play in the Consolation Plate Competition will be allocated times for the Sunday morning; Consolation Plate tee-off times will immediately follow the semi-final matches.

5. Prizes will be awarded to those who qualify for the matchplay stages, and to the winners and runners-up in the Plate competition. Special prizes may also be awarded.

6. All entrants are therefore entitled to at least two rounds of golf, with the possibility of a third round if they are successful in the matchplay stages and reach the Final. In exceptional circumstances (e.g. weather) the Committee may find it necessary to vary the Tournament Format and will confirm any such variations to competitors as appropriate.
